ARE YOU CONTEMPLATING FIXING YOUR FAÇADE IN THE DOWNTOWN AREA?
A Revitalization Tax Exemption Bylaw was enacted by Council in October 2005 to
encourage certain types of property investment and revitalization within an area. The
goal of this bylaw was to encourage the redevelopment of the Mission Downtown
Business area by offering a tax incentive for businesses that promote neighbourhood
rejuvenation, façade improvements and beautification.
Because of this bylaw, many of the businesses in this area are now contemplating doing
a “face lift” to some of their buildings. Prior to doing so, the business may need to apply
for a “Downtown Facade Review” which is completed by the District of Mission Planning
Department.
Buildings located on First Avenue and Railway Avenue between Grand Street and
Murray Street and for buildings located at 32965 Lougheed Highway, 32988 First
Avenue and 32998 First Avenue, are required to complete an application for a
“Downtown Façade Review” when minor building facade changes and renovations are
proposed for the exterior of existing buildings.
